How do you calculate the impact from my Ethical Saver Cubes?

The environmental impact figures displayed when you create an Ethical Saver Cube are derived from Standard Chartered’s independently audited Sustainable Finance Impact Report (available to read here). These figures represent the average amount of CO₂ emissions avoided and clean water generated per dollar invested.

To estimate your personal impact, we apply these average values to the amount you deposit. Since the Sustainable Finance Impact Report is produced annually, we ensure that only the proportionate impact for the duration of your term is included. All calculations are based on data from the portfolio’s performance in the previous year.

We also aim to present these impact figures in a meaningful, real-world context. For instance, CO₂ savings may be translated into equivalents such as the number of phones charged or flights avoided. These comparisons are based on the US Environmental Protection Agency’s CO₂ equivalency calculator, which you can view here.
