What is 3D Secure (3DS)?

What it is, how it works and why it's important.

Updated this week

3D Secure (3DS) is an extra security step used for some online payments to help keep your card safe from fraud.

When a payment requires 3DS, we’ll send a one-time passcode (OTP) by text message to the mobile number on your account. To complete the payment, just enter the code when prompted at checkout.

Why is this used?
It adds an extra layer of protection, making it harder for someone else to use your card online.

Do I need to do this every time?
No, only when a payment is flagged for additional security.

What if I don’t receive the code?
Make sure your phone number is up to date. If you’re still having trouble, contact support through the app.

What if I don’t recognise the payment, or get an unexpected text message OTP?
Do not enter the code anywhere or share it with anyone. Freeze your card in the app immediately and contact support straight away.

Important: Neither Algbra, nor any other bank or financial institution will contact you and ask you to share a payment authorisation OTP with them. Never share these codes with anyone, even if they seem trustworthy.
